Details are still coming out but there is a suggestion that EHCP funding will move from being linked to individual children but instead to groups of schools and they would decide how to use the funding across many children.

On the outside this sounds great as we all know students without/waiting for EHCPs and schools are at breaking point without the funding trying to support these students, however as more details emerge this new system could really upset the apple cart.

It would take away the legality around an EHCP and make them a last resort through a four tier process that the student and school will work through.

Although not confirmed yet and unlikely to come into existence before 2029/2030 academic year it is becoming clear a shake up is coming. It remains to be seen if the shake up helps or hinders as we all wait with baited breath.
